I am not joking. I seriously do not get this. It is crazy to me.
Seems to me that the school got it right - then the courts got involved.

People should be free to choose what is best for themselves as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same. I created this blog to discuss issues I have with big government, liberal media, and to talk about my support for capitalism and the Iraq War.

Wait, you support the teacher who burned an american flag in class, but you feel that the child wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt should be censored? I wish I could say that shows some type of hypocrisy, but honestly I just find it completely baffling. Maybe you can explain.
Also, if you feel that this t-shirt shoudl have been censored, then remind me how you felt about the t-shirt that said 'homosexuality is hateful' that the courts ruled a student couldn't wear to school a few months ago. I thought I remembered you supporting the kid's right to wear it (or at the very least yelling at the courts for trampling on our free speech rights), but I could be misremembering that.
Its unclear where darwin land on this position am i curious to see what he thinks.
I actually was not too worried about the anti bush part - more towards the cocaine and alcohol part of the shirt.
Well from what I could tell from the article, the t-shirt was making fun of Bush for using the drugs, which would seem to portray them negatively... The school has made a problem for itself since it's policy "prohibits clothing that promotes the use of drugs or alcohol" rather than just prohibiting the display of those things.
I'm not totally sure how I feel about this one. In this particular cse I think that the school should probably get to decide whether or not the kid can wear the shirt, since it's merely offensive to some and not threatening to anyone. But I'm not so comfortable with the courts standing back and letting local organizations set their own policy with regards to things like the FIrst Ammendment.
Second paragraph is a condtradiction.
I know. That's why I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I don't think this particular case is egregious enough to warrant court intervention, but it may be a very unclear line and I want to extra cautious that we don't cross it.
