Must Stop Fat People

NY Board of Health will end obesity if it is the last thing they do.

I don't have a problem with forcing restaraunts to post nutritional information- after all, 'Fans have a right to know'. I think arguments for the free market only make sense if consumers know what they're buying.

But once that information is avaiable, outlawing types of oil is ludicrous. I might be more sympathetic to denying publicly funded health care to treat weight/heart-related problems to people who have knowingly eaten these types of things, though of course you'd be against publicly funded healthcare to begin with.

Fast Food companies allready post this information on posters or flyers located in the store. What NY board of health wants is to have it posted right next to the item on the big menu. That seems excessive to me.

Yeah, I'd agree that's unneccessary.

Ironically, I'm quite sure that this type of legislation could never be passed by the national government; only local government could get it passed. Indeed, almost all the programs I see you objecting to on this site are the results of local government.

The FDA is the one that requires these restaurants to display the flyers and posters with the nutrion values. Hence big govt does pass this stuff.
And when you talk about me bashing local goverments - The ones I talk about are in big cities - where 9 people who were not elected control the decisions of 8 -15 million.
Now I know you are going to come after me that these peope were appointed by those I elected. Which is true. I just wish we had more control over how those people got appointed and I wish there were smalller areas they controlled- like they could only affect smaller districs in the city.
Lastly - I also think it is okay to slam local goverments. Just becuase I am favor of local goverments over big goverments it does not mean I cannot make fun or critize them.
