Wow, thanks Pew. I can think of almost nothing that I wouldn't concede is 'acceptable at least in some circumstances.' Wish they'd give these numbers for NON_MUSLIMS so we'd actually have some useful information.

I think this information is useful and it does show (in my opinion) that there are a lot of muslims out there that are okay with killing innocent people in the name of religion. Sorry - that creeps me out.

It would be interesting to compare muslims attitudes to other relgious groups. Especially if you want to draw distinctions between muslims and non-muslims.

That's what I'm saying. Also, diatribe, y9ou said:

However, the article says:

"The question did not specify where a suicide attack might occur, who might carry it out or what was meant by using a bombing to “defend Islam.”"

If someone asked me whether I thought suicide bombing was ever acceptable and said nothing else, my immediate thought would be driving a jeep of explosives into the gates of a Nazi concentration camp... I reall don't feel like this survey was well-formed enough to draw the conclusions you seem to be thinking of.

One that drives a jeep packed full of explosives into a gate of a concentrate and dies in the process is not considered a suicide bomber.

If you drove that same jeep into a packed market you would be a suicide bomber. The distinguish characteristics is your intent with your suicide.

Right, that's your definition (and maybe a sensible and common one), I'm just saying that if you survey random people and don't define your terms, who knows what scenario they think of when asked if it's 'ever justified.'

I agree that left has done a remarkable job of muddying up the term suicide bomber. This in turn has made polling using this term much more difficult.

LOL, what the hell are you talking about? Want to give any evidence or examples? Since you think that someone who kills themselves blowing something up ISN'T a suicide bomber (re: my anti-nazi example), don't you mean to say that the right-leaning parts of the media and government have muddying up the term so it has connotations beyond its literal meaning?

Ironicaly, to what you say, Fox News uses Homocide bomber to clean up the meaning of the term.

Heh, see, there you go. I'd like to see PEW ask Muslims how they feel about Homicide Bombers.
