People should be free to choose what is best for themselves as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same. I created this blog to discuss issues I have with big government, liberal media, and to talk about my support for capitalism and the Iraq War.

It's only a waste of money if you have people mismanaging it.

Thats my point - the federal govenment is to big and cannot manage projects like this. There needs to be more local control. Big government automtically equals big waste of money. There is barely and need to control their spending.
By the way it is really time to let go of your war issues.

You're right, I'll go tell the families of the 3886 soldiers who've died they should just let it go.

While I'm at it, I'll let the families of the nearly 85,000 documented civilian deaths know they should let it go too.

Wait a minute! People die in war? Thats it. I'm against the war in Iraq. Why didn't anyone tell me? Had I known I would never supported the invasion.
You're right, we should let private charities handle it. Then they'd never release any reports on the fraud, corruption and incompetence in their organizations, we'd never have to read about it, and we'd still be happy and not outraged.

When you talk to them be prepared to hear from the majority of them about how proud they are of their son or daugther and how they support our presidents decisions.
Darwin - I am not talking about private charities to take care of it all. How about a New Orleans Hurricane Response Team. They can assess and determine how much man power and money they need to make that work. It is better to have someone in control of the situtation that is from the area and knows there way around as opposed to flying in some group from DC then having to figure everything out when he gets there (slows down the works). We need more local control.

Yeah, that way we can have a New Orleans Hurricane Response Team, a Miami/Dade County Hurricane Response Team, a Tampa Hurricane Response Team, an Orlando Hurricane Response Team, a Daytona Hurricane Response Team, a Jacksonville Hurricane Response Team, a Tallahassee Hurricane Response Team, and a Pensacola Hurricane Response Team.
That covers most of the urban areas of Florida, but not the rest of the gulf states or the eastern seaboard. You sure that would help your cause of "less government"? That sounds like bigger government to me.
Also, the headquarters of the New Orleans Hurricane Response Team would, of course, be underwater. Maybe this could work better at a state level, but I'm not sure if I really think it would be more efficient than the federal level, once you're already that far removed.
I understand your point about how removing everything to the federal level slows stuff down and puts people who are unfamiliar with the area in charge, but I also think that it comes with advantages in terms of sheer magnitude of resources available, and the expertise that can be mustered on a national vs. city level (ie, the New Orleans Hurricane Response Team would, theoretically, consist of the very best Hurricane Response professionals in New Orleans; whereas FEMA, again theoretically, should conist of the very best Hurricane Response professionals in the country, and also they should be getting a lot more experience in the field).
So I think there are trade-offs eitehr way, and I haven't seen a proposal that I really think would be better than a federal response.
I would like the federal government to have to best hurrican people on staff and they can be flown down to New Orleans where there is a staff in control of managing things and they of course take input from the federal people and the federal people would be in charge of giving the local folks the money and resources they believe are necessary.
Basicaally the federal people can be there to help anyway they can - but the local people have the say.
