People should be free to choose what is best for themselves as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same. I created this blog to discuss issues I have with big government, liberal media, and to talk about my support for capitalism and the Iraq War.

Do you actually get enjoyment out of trying to find bias in news articles?
It sure seems like you only read articles now to look for evidence of bias and that is a sad way to live your life. I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to you could find bias in just about anything that's written regardless of whether it's actually there or not.
I do have a serious question for you though. You seem to think that news organizations as a whole are left leaning. Why are they that way? What do they have to gain by being that way?
I do get a little enjoyment out of it because I feel like I notice a lot more things than the average viewer on why things are biased. I believe this is because I got a degree in journalsim. But it pisses me off more than I get enjoyment out of it.
As to your question on why are news organizations left leaning?
One of the main reasons they are left leaning is becuase they are taught to be in college. As I mentioned before one of my degrees was in Broadcast journalism and I took all the reporting classes. Professors wanted us to more like activists and less like journalists. We were supposed to cover stories that would have an impact on people. We were told to highlight the monstrosities going on in the world. Give voice to the people who have none. Their was rarely talk about objectivest news reporting.
Also I have been doing a lot of searching of college catalogues today. Looking at the titles to these journalism courses now it is easy to see how these kids come out left leaning.
Loyola - which is not even a very liberal school has journalism classes that all start with Social Justice in the Title. What the hell does social justice have to do with news reporting? Colleges are pumping out students who are on a mission to change the world through telling stories through a certain lens.
I worked at a tv station myself for a while. I saw it everyday with the stories the producers wanted to tell. I would sit behind the news desk letting the producers know what stories were coming in off the wire. They would then pick the story they wanted to tell and send a reporter out to carry it. For a while they were on a bank robbery kick - made it seem like there were a ton of bank robberies going on in Omaha. Those kind of stories were going on for about a week. Even though the followinbg week there were more bank robberies they were bored telling that story. It was not "selling" anymore. The news it developed by producers - turns out producers are humnan being = human being have biases. Biases come from the education you recieved when you were younger. Hence it is not hard to see how these liberal bias come out.
Also it has become popular to do so. If you want to be "hip" then you have to talk about stories with a certain left leaning. How many popular people or celebrities do you know that come out and say they are conservative? Just does not happen. I can think of a few off the top of my head but they are all way old where they do not care anymore what the hip crowd thinks of them.
The crazy part is that with all these news sources going after the same demo it is not hard to discover why so many are losing money or viewershit/readership is down. They are all going after the same part of the pie. This is why Foxnews and the NY Post do so well is that they have no competition for their viewers. Also the country as a whole is Center Right. It is shocking to me that the news does not reflect where the majority of hte country is. They would rather influence where the country should go instead of tailoring to where the country is. These media people truly believe that they can influence hundreds of thousands of people. If McCain gets elected maybe they might get the hint that they do not have the power they think they do and instead of influence they country with news they will INFORM the country with the news.
And just because I do not think they can Influence hundreds of thousands of people it still bothers me that they try. I want reporting - not influencing.
