Though They Have Never Proven to be Successful

The City of Chicago wants to have a camera on every street corner. My tax dollars well spent AGAIN!

I actually don't really have a problem with these cameras because they don't affect me. I'm a law abiding citizen... generally speaking.

What I do have a problem with are the red light cameras. They'll say that they are for public safety, but if that were the case, they would have them on the corner of Western and Addison where 4000 kids walk a day.

I wouldn't mind the red light cameras as much if they had the countdown crosswalk signs that let you know when the light will turn red.

That used to be my argument as well (I am law abiding so what do I care). But now that I have seen other cities use them on every corner (and no reduce in crime) my argument is that they are a waste of money. If they actually reduced crime I might be okay with it - though there could be a civil liberties argument.

On the other hand, government wiretapping, which I believe you supported at the time (correct me if I'm wrong) is sure to produce RESULTS in a big way.
