Studio 60 Renewed

Though this show is not as good as West Wing or Sports Night - I feel that it can be. Sorkin needs to pick up the pace of the show - many scenes are way to long with nothing happening.

It also seems like he's bowing to the idea that 'there must be tension, there must be unpleasant characters, there must be bad things happening to good people, or else there's no drama.' My favorite parts of Sports Night and West Wing were the early shows where it was just a bunch of people you really like interacting and accomplishing things and so forth. Unpleasant people are simply unpleasant to watch- if you're not going to have Bruce Willis garrote them at the end of the movie, then there's no reason to have them there, bringing down the mood.

I really did like the most recent episod though (20 hours in America part one... no wait... I mean Nevada Day part one). Felt like he was remembering how to create dramatic tension without making us dislike any of the characters.

I agree that last episode was much more Sorkenish.
The whole Christian thing is getting old though

I also wish he'd stop doing these nods to the conservatives to sho that he's not just a hippy liberal when he clearly is. "It's not that you don't like guns, Sam, it's that you don't like the people that like the guns." feels pretty much the same to me as "Your side thinks that my side thinks that your side is stupid, and my side thinks that your side is stupid." Seriously, calling liberals hypocritical after calling conservatives stupid doesn't mean that you're balanced or independant or whatever, it just means you've offended your entire potential audience instead of half of it.

Wow - check out the west wing quotes. And I thought I was a west wing geek. It is nice to know there are others. I do not feel so alone.

heh, my biggest geek thing in this regard is pointing out all the scenes and themes in Sports Night that were recycled into West Wing. There are a couple most people miss.
