Why is this such a big deal? So kids dressed up like gangsta's at a themed party OFF CAMPUS. If it was held at the student center - maybe you got an argument - maybe. So white people cannot dress up like the gangsta's they see in music videos and movies? That is racist? So if a black guy dresses up as a cowboy - that is racist? I do not see why white people have to explain themselves for dressing up like this?
UPDATE-the students were being racist? - I guess I need to be educated. Glad the NAACP got involved. Super happy the college organized a forum for the students to apologize. All that was needed.

What are you actually objecting to here? That some black students were offended by this? I think they're entitled to their opinions. That the college issued a statement about it? Remember they're a business; you can be sure that if a bunch of Wal-mart employees all got together for somehting like this and it got into the newspaper, that Wal-Mart would publish a statement. I idin't see anything in the story about the students being suspended, or the school being sued, or anything stupid like that; so I'm not sure what you're objecting to.
I am objecting that people are offended by this and then turning into a big deal by going to the media with it. Of course people are entitled to their opinion. I just do not like it and I am voicing mine. Why cant they brush it off and say those kids are crazy or dumb, or hell - why cant they say - its a THEMED PARTY - and they just wanted to have fun dressing like gangstas? Are these black people honestly denying that there are gangstas out there? I want to know if it would be okay for these black students dressed up like gangstas for a party? And if it is okay - then what is the difference? I also now imagine the universtiy is going to put forth some kind of cultural diversity training or seminar.
I am saying they are blowing this way out of proportion. They are making this a bigger deal than it should be.
Next - I want to hear the argument of why this was a bad thing? It seems to me that white people always need to be taught a lesson. White people are so ignorant or racist. I am sick of being told that every day. I have to open my eyes and see the TRUTH. Seriously if some black student had a ranch cowboy themed party - do you think white students would get upset - go to the media - go to the head of the school. And if they would for some reason I would call them crazy too. I am just getting real tired of feeling like others are trying to teach me a lesson. Like there is something out there that I do not understand. Telling me I need to be more sensitive and respect all cultures. All it taks is one black person to play the race card and it becomes a huge deal. Damn congresswomen throws a phone at security guard for doing his job. HEr first line of defense - racism. People like that do more harm to their culture than I can calculate. And for some reason I am the one who needs to be educated.
I feel like I am very educated thank you. And I would say I am the farthest away from racist a person can be. I do not care about skin color, or where you are from, or what kind of childhood you had, or how much money your parents made. None of that goes into my opinon about you. I base my opinon on your actions now. How hard you work, how much you support your family, your confidence level, how much you love life, your dreams, and aspirations.
Wow i went off on a tangent. Thats what i do. Go ahead and form an opinion on that.
