People should be free to choose what is best for themselves as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same. I created this blog to discuss issues I have with big government, liberal media, and to talk about my support for capitalism and the Iraq War.

Hell, I could 'detain' people who are 'suspected criminals' all day long. I'm a very suspicious person.
Maybe legitimate news sources will report on this when there's been some definitive evidence.
I'm sorry I just saw OJ get arrested a few weeks back. There has been no trial and it was all over the news as soon as it happened and then for the next week. He is just suspected of a criminal act.
People get detained or arrested all the time. If a high ranking official of ours was a suspect MSM would be all over it. Come on
If one of our officers was detained as a suspected criminal it would be all over the MSM news. It would go on for all of eternity. Another example is the Duke lacrosse fiasco.
Thats because the MSM is biased against the military while most ambivalent towards our enemy.
Wow, come on guys, let's get some intellectual honesty in here. Why does the media report on it when OJ Simpson gets arrested? Because he's a celebrity and everyone's heard of him. Why does the news media report on it when a US official is suspected of some crime? Because he's a trusted official and we all want to know about it.
How are these people different from some random scumbag no one's ever heard of? Well, first of all, he's some random scumbag rather than a trusted elected official, and second of all, unlike a celebrity, no one's ever heard of him. Random scumbags get arrested and detained all the time without anyone ever caring about it.
Now, you do have a point that someone who's allegedly involved with al-qaeda is of more interest, I'm just pointing out why your counter-examples are inapropriate.
But here's another difference between the weeks-long circusses that are the OJ and elected official trials and this thing here - those are actually trials. Camera crews wait outside the courtroom, interview friends and family, hear reports and accounts from all kinds of people, etc. Whereas in this case, there's no story, just a single fact- the military released a report saying they detained this guy. There is no trial to cover, no evidence to investigate, they can't interview him- it's all classified and hidden. There's no soundbites to gather, no footage to run, aside from the original brief announcement. There's simply no way to create the type of media circus you're talking about.
For my counter-example, look at the Sadam Hussein trial- in that case there actually was a trial that the MSM could report on, and report on it they did, just like the OJ case or any other media circus trial. How does that fit into your theory?
