People should be free to choose what is best for themselves as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same. I created this blog to discuss issues I have with big government, liberal media, and to talk about my support for capitalism and the Iraq War.

This is easy to believe. The principal at my old school used to tell the teachers all the time that if they were failing (I want to say I remember half of the students in their class) numerous students, maybe the teacher should look in the mirror.
It wasn't explicitly stated that teachers should lower their standards and perhaps he was implying that these teachers should maybe find a better way of teaching the material.
Regardless, this doesn't surprise me at all. I'm surprised we don't hear of this more often to be honest with you. Especially with the popularity of merit pay on the rise. The good part of merit pay is that it's tied to standardized tests (which is out of the teachers hands), the bad part is that it's tied to standardized tests (because it encourages teachers to ONLY teach to the standardized test).
What I am surprised about is that the principal was stupid enough to put it in a memo to the entire faculty. He had to know that all it would take is one disgruntled teacher and the press comes a callin'.
Diatribe, don't you favor a private shcool system where, inevitable, many students would go to schools where low expectations were a selling point? Plenty of parents know that their kids aren't great at school, and would just want to put them somewhere where they could get the best education they'd actually sit still for.
Hey Darwin if this was a private school and they had a selling point of lowering standards than more power to them. I am not sure though if there is a market for a school whose motto is "come to our school where we expect less from your kids."
But this is not that situation, so it saddens me a bit.
By the way if you ever look at research on effective high schools you will always see that schools need to demand more from their students. If you treat them like they are idiots shockingly they will act like it. Expect more from them and watch how they can rise to the occasion.
